Amelia M. “Molly” (Julius) Gross 89, of Norwood, died December 25 in the Ellis Nursing Center in Norwood. She was the wife of the late William Gross. Born in East Walpole, December 7, 1923, the daughter of the late Alphonso and Mary (Renzulli) Julius, Molly was raised in East Walpole and had lived in Mansfield for many years before moving to Norwood 23 years ago. She had been an assembler at the Bay State Tap and Die Company in Mansfield for many years. She was the sister of the late Marie Clark, Nunzio Julius, Margaret Julius, Florence Kenney, Betty Eisner and Madeline Borg. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. Her funeral service will be private with burial in Knollwood Park, Canton. Arrangements are under the care of the Ginley Funeral Home, 892 Main Street Walpole.

Joan D. (Kukowski) Paquette, 81, of East Walpole died Sunday, December 30, 2012 at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Brighton. She was the beloved wife of Charles R. Paquette. Born in Bayonne, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Jean (Mazur) Kukowski. Mrs. Paquette was a 1949 graduate of Port Richmond High School in Staten Island, NY. After graduation, she was recruited to work at the Central Intelligence Agency in Washington DC, where she met her husband of 57 years. They moved to Massachusetts in 1957 and settled in East Walpole in 1961. Mrs. Paquette was an active member and past president of the League of Women Voters of Walpole and was a volunteer for the American Red Cross. An avid square dancer, Mrs. Paquette was a member of the DO-SI-DOers for 35 years and, along with her husband, was their past president. Besides her husband, she is survived by her children, Suzanne M. Paquette and Laura J. Paquette, both of Foxboro, John H. Paquette of North Waltham, and Alice J. Paquette and her husband Alexander Protopapas of Brooklyn, NY. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Nathan, Delphine and Thales, a sister, Carole H. Lesniewski of Hopewell, NJ, a brother, Gary E. Kukowski of St. Augustine, FL and many nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Robert C. Paquette and sister of the late Edward M. Kukowski. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral on Saturday, January 5 at 8:15 a.m. from the Ginley Funeral Home 892 Main Street in Walpole (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) followed by a funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Church, 186 Washington Street in East Walpole at 9 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in South Walpole. An invitation will be extended to family and friends following the burial to a memorial reception at the Elks Lodge in Norwood. Helen Mary (Waltonen) Vitartis, 86, of Walpole died December 31 in the Maples Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Wrentham. She was the wife of the late Charles A. Vitartis and the late William W. Bennett. Born in Walpole, January 14, 1926, the daughter of the late John and Ainna (Jussila) Waltonen, Mrs. Vitartis was a lifelong Walpole resident. She had worked for 15 years as a quality control manager for the Harrison Specialty company. She had previously worked for the Walpole Bottling company and the Just Rite cleaners. Helen was a member of the Emblem Club of Norwood. She is survived by her children, Michael W. Bennett of New Hampshire. Patricia Shipps and her husband John of Wrentham and David W. Bennett and his wife Lori of Houston, Texas. She was the step mother of the late Alice Pitts. She was the sister of the late Paavo and Onni Waltonen. Helen is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Her funeral service will be held on Friday January 4 in the Ginley Funeral Home, 892 Main Street Walpole at 11; 00. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Walpole. Don was a thoughtful well read man, He was an avid golfer and wonderful pianist, a man of quiet dignity whose intelligence and wit will be deeply missed by his wife of 36 years Vivian & all who knew & loved him. Gunter Erdman 73, of Medway formerly of Walpole died January 2 in Milford Regional Medical Center. Born in Hamburg, Germany, January 6, 1939, the son of the late Paul and Gertrude (Hasselberg) Erdman, Mr. Erdmann was raised in Germany and came to America in 1960. He first lived in Somerville for several years before moving Walpole where he lived until moving to Medway eight years ago. An inventor, he was the owner of QTS Engineering Company for many years. Mr. Erdman held thirteen U.S. Patents for inventions that were used in the electronics field. Mr. Erdman had been an outstanding soccer player. He had played for the Norwood Kickers and in 1969-1970 he as a forward on the team which won the Bay State Championship. He is survived by his son Thomas Erdman and his wife Gina of East Walpole. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Zachary, Joshua, Mason and Drew. A memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday January 8 in the Ginley Funeral Home, 892 Main Street, Walpole from 6-8. Born in Boston, November 22, 1931, the son of the late Howard and Mary (Hicks) Ross, Mr. Ross had lived in Walpole for most of his life. Mr. Ross had worked for the Plymouth Rubber Company for many years before retiring. He leaves many friends. Everett A. “Rocky” Rockwood, 88, of Walpole died January 5, in the Kindred Hospital Specialty, Northeast, in Stoughton. He was the husband of Jane M. (Maker) Rockwood. Born in Somerville, Mass, November 21, 1924, the son of Everett A. and Julia (Dailey) Rockwood, Mr. Rockwood had lived for most of his life in Walpole. He was a graduate of Walpole High School. Mr. Rockwood had operated Rocky’s Newsstand and Sandwich Shop in East Walpole, a beloved meeting place for East Walpole residents for many years. Rocky served in the Army during World War II. He was a member of the 29th Infantry Division, 115th Infantry. He saw action at Normandy and in Northern France. He received severe wounds from mortar shells. His quick wit and infectious smile helped with his long recovery. He was awarded the Purple Heart, two bronze battle stars, the bronze medal and the expert infantry combat badge. A longtime member of the Walpole VFW and its past Commander, He was an integral part of the Memorial Day parades and Veterans Days parades every year. He was truly one of the greatest generation. Rocky enjoyed gardening, bowling, watching sports and having coffee with his friends at McDonalds, where he was known as the “Mayor”. In addition to his wife he is survived by his children Jeffrey Rockwood of Middleton, Mass, and Linda Rockwood of Walpole. His also survived by his daughter-in-law Patricia Connolly of Walpole. He was the father of the late James and Wayne Rockwood. He is also survived by his siblings Marjorie Rockwood of Sarasota Fla., Norma Stewart Sun City of Fla., Gertrude Bedard of Norton and Leo Rockwood of Centerville. He was the brother of the late Lawrence Rockwood and Edna Shore. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Paul, Michael, Lisa, David, Molly and Casey. His funeral will be held on Thursday January 10 from the Ginley Funeral Home, 892 Main Street Walpole at 9:15 followed by a funeral mass in Blessed Sacrament Church at 10:00. Burial with full military honors will be in St. Francis Cemetery, South Walpole. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday from 4-7. Kathleen “Kay” Mary (Hegarty) Brady, of East Walpole, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, January 22, surrounded by her family. She was the loving wife of 59 years to Bernard E. Brady. Raised in Hyde Park. Graduate of Hyde Park High School and the Boston Business School. Kay is remembered as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother whose greatest joy in life was supporting and doing things for and with her family. She loved living in East Walpole and took great pride in her Irish heritage. She was an excellent cook, and also a sports fan that enjoyed watching football and hockey on TV. She travelled to Florida every winter with her husband until a few years before her passing. She was the daughter of Peg and Tom Hegarty, who were born in Ireland. In addition to her devoted husband, she is survived by two daughters: Kathy O’Rourke and her husband Tom of Westford; Peg White and her husband Tom of Walpole; and three sons, Bernie and his wife Helene of East Walpole; Tim and his wife Kim of Walpole, and Tom and his wife Karen of East Walpole. Loving “Nana” to Joe, Matt, TJ, James, Michael, Brendan, Megan, Katie, Michaela, Kerianne, Patrick, Trevor, John, Conor, Thomas, and Susie. Kay also leaves a brother, Joseph Hegarty of Jupiter, Florida, plus many nieces and nephews and good friends. Predeceased by a brother Tom Hegarty, and sisters: Mary Greene, Dorothy Garrity, and Theresa Simmons. Alfred Ernest Thompson, 82, of Walpole died January 30 in the Harrington House in Walpole. He was the husband of Faith (Bolton) Thompson who he married on December 23, 1950. Born in Cambridge, May 15, 1930, the son of the late Alfred R. and Esther (Vowles) Thompson, Mr. Thompson as raised in Cambridge and had lived in Franklin for fifty years prior to moving to New Pond Village in Walpole in 2010. Mr. Thompson was a graduate of Cambridge Rindge Technical School. He also graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1960 and was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma. He received a Master of Business Administration Degree, Summa Cum Laude, from Babson College in 1970. Mr. Thompson enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served from 1950-1954. Mr. Thompson had been a financial manager at the Raytheon Company for 25 years before retiring in 1992. Al enjoyed cooking and gardening. In addition to his wife he is survived by his son Brandon E. Thompson and his wife Sharon of Nashua, New Hampshire. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Grant E. and Ava M. Thomson of Nashua, New Hampshire. A memorial service will held at a later date. Richard F. “Dick” Ahearn 83, of Walpole died February 1 in his home following a long illness. Born in Walpole, April 11, 1929, the son of the late Maurice and Anne (Ryan) Ahearn, Mr. Ahearn was a lifelong Walpole resident. Mr. Ahearn had worked for many years in the maintenance department of Foxboro State Hospital and the Wrentham Developmental Center. He had previously worked for the Boston Gas Company. Mr. Ahearn served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a former member of the Norwood Elks Club. He was an accomplished pianist, enjoyed golfing and was lover of animals, especially his cat Mickey. He is survived by his siblings Helen Conroy of Norwood, M. Joseph Ahearn and his wife Jean of Sandwich and Jane Ahearn of Walpole. He was the brother-in-law of the late Fred Conroy. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Born in Boston, August 26, 1944, the daughter of the late Thomas and Alice (O’Neil) Flynn, Mrs. Bjork was raised in Jamaica Plain and had lived in Walpole for the past 44 years. A homemaker, Mrs. Bjork had taught CCD at Blessed Sacrament Church and been a Girl Scout leader. She loved to cook, travel, go to the beach in North Carolina and to go to Foxwoods. Carol was always there for her family which meant the most to her. In addition to her husband she is survived by her children, Lisa Olivier and her husband Rich of Cranston, Rhode Island, Karen Cupo and her husband Michael of Clayton, North Carolina and Carl Bjork of Walpole. Bruno J. Gradzewicz, 94, of Walpole died March 7 in Harrington House in Walpole. He was the husband of the late Eleanor (Lori) Gradzewicz who died in 1998. Born in Lawrence, April 10, 1918, the son of the late Witold and Marjanna (Pitkiewicz) Gradzewicz, Mr. Gradzewicz had been a longtime resident of Walpole. Mr. Gradzewicz had worked for the Westinghouse Corporation for many years before retiring. Bruno had been an avid golfer and enjoyed going to the horse races. He is survived by his step sister Wanda Turner of Lawrence. He was the brother of the late Stanley Gradzewicz and step brothers Stanley, Ted, Frank and Joseph Swiec. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday March 12 in Blessed Sacrament Church at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, South Walpole. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 9:00-10:15 a.m. in the Ginley Funeral Home 892 Main Street in Walpole.

Stephen “Pistol Pete” Fortin, 52, of Walpole, died Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Faulkner Hospital in Boston after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Joanne “Jody” (Heymann) Fortin since 1985. Born in Manchester, New Hampshire on June 21, 1960, he was the loving son of Donald and Joan (LaRochelle) Fortin. Pete was a resident of Walpole for the past 17 years and formerly resided in West Roxbury. He grew up in Georgetown, graduated from Georgetown High School and attended St. Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Pete was a contractor and sheet metal worker at Hurley Construction & Roofing in Malden for the past 20 years and also owned his own businesses, Indian Hills Roofing and S.P. Fortin Plowing. Pete loved the outdoors, especially fishing and boating and enjoyed summering in Falmouth with his family. During the winter, Pete was happiest skiing the moguls on “Outer Limits” with his family and friends. He was an active volunteer for the Walpole Gridiron Boosters and was an avid N.E. Patriots fan. Pete was a great guy with a big heart. He enjoyed life and cherished the time spent with family and friends and will surely be missed by everyone that he touched. Besides his wife and parents, he is survived by his children, Jeffrey, Stephen Jr., Julie and Michael Fortin, all of Walpole and his siblings, Richard Fortin and his wife Beverly of Heathrow, FL, Lise Nichols and her husband Kevin of Wilmington, David Fortin and his wife Janet of Debary, FL, John Fortin and his wife Martina of Mt. Airy, MD and Elizabeth Bedrosian and her husband Michael of Carlsbad, CA. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Marie Heymann of Walpole, his sister-in-law Linda Stankiewicz and her husband Hank of Milton and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was the brother of the late Jeffrey Fortin. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral on Wednesday, March 13 from the Ginley Funeral Home, 892 Main St. in Walpole (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) at 8:15 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at Blessed Sacrament Church, 10 Diamond St. in Walpole at 9 a.m. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 4 – 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Pete’s memory to the Walpole Gridiron Boosters, P.O. Edna May (Madden) LaCivita, 89, of East Walpole died March 26 at her home. She was the wife of 69 years of Charles P. LaCivita. Born in Stoughton, July 15, 1923, the daughter of the late Luke and Mary (Buckley) Madden, Mrs. LaCivita was raised in Stoughton and had lived in East Walpole since 1946. She was a 1942 graduate of Stoughton High School. A homemaker, Edna loved to write poems; travel and take trips to the beach with her family and to be with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Edna was known for her great sense of humor. In addition to her husband she is survived by her children, Russell LaCivita of Walpole, Pamela Poirier of East Walpole, Joanne Sbardella of Catumet, Edna May Morrie of St. Alban, Vermont. Christine LaCivita of East Walpole and the late David LaCivita and Cheryl Haley. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Michael Sbardella, Jill Hall, Tina DiCicco, Carla Yuastella, Wiley Gutchell and Patrick Haley. She is also survived b her great-grandchildren, Jovanni, Caroline, David, Emma, Giada and Julianna. Her services were private with burial in St. Francis Cemetery in South Walpole. Donations in her memory may be made to Gentiva Hospice, 2 Willow Street Suite 102, Southboro, MA 01745 or Boston Children’s Hospital 300 Longwood Ave, Boston, MA 02115. Arrangements were under the care of the Ginley Funeral Home, Walpole.
