Ted F. McCarthy, 77, of Walpole died December 15, 2011 at his home. He was the husband of Marie A. (Oja) McCarthy for the past 51 years.
Born in Boston, May 21, 1934, the son of the late Francis C. and E. Leone (Smith) McCarthy, Mr. McCarthy was raised in Norwood and had lived in Walpole for over 50 years.
Mr. McCarthy had been a salesman for Powered Staging Corporation of Norwood, and previously owned/operated the former Houston-McCarthy Realtors agency in Walpole.
Ted also served on several municipal Boards and Committees for the Town of Walpole.
Passionate about ice hockey, he played in his youth and later coached in the Walpole youth hockey program.
Ted was devoted to his family and took great pride in spending time with his wife and grandchildren. He cherished his home, enjoyed working in the yard, and maintaining his cars.
He served in the Army during the Korean War era, attaining the rank of Private First Class.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Michael McCarthy of Columbiana, Alabama, Beth Murphy and her husband Doug of Walpole, Shawn McCarthy and his wife Carol of Wrentham, and Erin McCarthy of Bourne.
He is also survived by his brother, Frank McCarthy and his wife Shirley of Savannah, Georgia and was pre-deceased by his sister, Nancy Walker of Plymouth.
Grandfather to 10 children, including Kristen, Cara, Kyle, Cameron and Morgan McCarthy, Kevin and Meghan Murphy, and Shannon, Shelby and Tristen Upton.
His funeral will be held on Tuesday, December 20 from the Ginley Funeral Home, 892 Main St. in Walpole at 9:30 followed by a funeral Mass in Blessed Sacrament Church, Walpole at 10:30 a.m.
Private burial will be at a later date at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
Visiting hours will be on Monday from 5-8 p.m.
